We woke up early in the morning at Great Wolf Lodge and got ready to check out by 11:00am. We could have gone to the water park today as well, but opted to visit the Falls instead. Upon checking out of the hotel, the animatronic forest animals were singing songs to a small group of children and it was awesome - some kind of fantastic breakfast song! One of the characters sang that he wanted to eat garbage for breakfast and we laughed a lot.
I got a bagel and coffee and we sat by the fireplace for a little while before leaving Great Wolf Lodge to start the rest of our day.
After we left, we drove down River Rd. for a little while and decided to stop when we saw the river out of our window. The tourist area by the Whirlpool was closed for the season, so we decided to hop over the fence to get a closer view of the river below. The river and the whirlpool, as well as the escarpment looked so cool. It is beautiful to view in the winter, especially when there aren't many tourists around. Being there on our own made it even more special!
We also saw the Aero Car that runs in the summer - it looks like a bit of an antique, as though it would be too sketchy and old to actually run! It looked very neat though. I'm not sure that I would feel safe dangling above the Whirlpool in it, although I'm sure it is safe since it runs each season!
We continued driving and saw a beautiful Buddhist Temple at the side of the road with many intricately carved statues. It is amazing that such buildings exist right around the corner from the bright lights and tourist trap of Clifton Hill!
Then, we arrived at the Bird Kingdom. I found out about the aviary online and didn't know too much about it. We weren't sure what to think at first, but this aviary is incredible!
An information room about Niagara Falls. Oh no...I'm in a barrel going over the Falls!
You start at the Reptile Room to view lizards, turtles, snakes, iguanas, and even a Komodo Dragon I think! We even saw a soft-shelled turtle.
An actual Laughing Kookaburra! We heard its amazing loud "laugh" - never heard it in real life until now!
Next was the small-bird aviary. Lots of finches and cute little birds flying all around, including birds of all different colours from various areas of the world!
Wattled Jacana from South America.
Java Sparrow from South East Asia.
Blue-Gray Tanager - beautiful shade of turquoise blue!
Then, we saw nocturnal creatures (sorry, no photos as I didn't want to disturb them!) - huge bats with a 4-foot wingspan, owls, cockroaches (eww!), huge spiders (eww!) and poisonous frogs (cool!).
