Watkins Glen, NY - Day 1 - State Park and Gorge
Thursday, August 18th, 2011 (continued from last blog post)
After our amazing experience at Farm Sanctuary, we drove a short distance to our bed and breakfast, Sunset on Seneca. It is a beautiful home situated right on Lake Seneca, complete with a dock that you can walk out on! We quickly dropped off our things at our room to head straight to Watkins Glen State Park (more on the B&B later!).
I warn you, this is going to be incredibly picture heavy...as it is an absolutely gorgeous place! The Watkins Glen gorge was simply breathtaking. It is one of the most beautiful places I have visited!
We walked along a bridge and up some stairs, along a path, all while being surrounded by rock, greenery, and the water below. We continued along the path walking behind small waterfalls all along where the river flows. The gorge walls at times completely surrounded us and all you could hear was the rushing water below.
We also saw some wildlife there, including one the protected Gray Pedaltail Dragonfly, and this little caterpillar that we moved from the path to a ledge out of harm's way.
We walked along one of the paths elevated above the main walking area by the water and stumbled upon this cemetary. What a peaceful final resting place to be so close to the beautiful gorge.
After our time at the gorge (and some time at the gift shop), we went back to the B&B to change for dinner. More to come in the next post!
